Het Ensemble Pygmalion staat niet alleen garant voor uitvoeringen op authentieke instrumenten van bijvoorbeeld Bach en Mozart, maar schuwt evenmin experimentele dansvoorstellingen of een bijzonder programma rondom Wagner zoals op deze cd. Dirigent Raphaël Pichon leerde het vak bij grote musici als Jordi Savall en Gustav Leonhardt, autoriteiten op de authentieke uitvoeringspraktijk. Zij willen de muziek laten klinken als in de tijd dat die ontstond. Het leidt steevast tot sprankelende uitvoeringen. Hier naast bijzondere arrangementen uit Wagners Ring voor vrouwenstemmen en harp, werken van Schubert en Brahms, stuk voor stuk messcherp gezongen.

Raphaël Pichon and his Ensemble Pygmalion invite us to follow the course of the Rhine in the company of his ‘maidens’.
Drawing on the German imaginative heritage, they present a programme in a number of tableaux in which these great composers of German Romanticism are, as it were, intertwined on the thread of a tradition, bearing the song of the Rhinemaidens in all its mystery and enchantment.
