Recensie

"Are Possible" is a sparking, surging fusion of styles played (primarily) on banjo, upright bass and drums. This is made possible by the individual perspectives of Nathan, double bassist Casey Toll (Jake Xerxes Fussell, Mt. Moriah) and drummer Rex McMurray (CAVE), who work together in a lightly rolling manner that nonetheless involves an expansive, ass-shaking confabulation of ideas.

Music is time in redux: the many moments of "Are Possible" carry details from everywhere. Rex brought in a rhythm after drumming on buckets at work, Casey provided a bass line that redirected an earlier jam, Nathan brought in a song he'd been tweaking forever, and they figured it out together. The variety of sources they draw from is easily reflected in the arrangements, which reflect a wide range of emotions, from transcendental sounds to new country funk to good old jazz and even folk rock - all exquisitely brought out in the mixing at Electrical Audio in Chicago with the fine hands of Cooper Crain at the controls. The Nathan Bowles Trio have done their job well, sending their music through time and space on its way to the now.
