Mary J Blige heeft voor het album tracks opgenomen met onder andere DJ Khaled, Anderson .Paak en Usher. De inspiratie voor het album komt uit de journey naar selflove en het worden van je eigen beste vriend. Een reis die de Amerikaanse artiest ook persoonlijk heeft afgelegd.
