ENSEMBLE XVIII-21 LE BAROQUE NOMADE

Het Franse ensemble XVIII-21 Le Baroque Nomade maakt haar naam waar. Als ware globetrotters trekken ze al sinds 1995 over de wereld op zoek naar bijzondere muziek. Dit keer hebben ze zich gestort op muziek voor Joodse feesten. Voor de vieringen van Rosh hashana, Soekot, Poerim, Chanoeka en Pesach komen werken in diverse muzikale klankkleuren aan bod. Het is een bonte mengeling van muzikale stijlen. Voor de arrangementen wordt een onbekende Josef Mijnapfel vermeld, waarvan niet duidelijk is wanneer die leefde en wat zijn rol was. De titel D’or et de lumière moet niet worden verward met een boek, een film en 2 andere cd’s met dezelfde titel.

Jewish music turns around the Mediterranean Sea, around the clock, around the holydays of the year, from Rosh Hashanah to Purim. Along the way, it swiches from one style to another, from baroque in hebrew language to ladino romances, from the most lively rhythms to the most melancholic melodies. By dint of a wide variety of instruments, like theorbos, baroque guitars, colascione, viola da terra, viols, flutes, many percussions, all its colors are highlighted. Through a humanistic and pioneering approach, XVIII-21 Le Baroque Nomade gives of this repertoire a sensitive version, full of contrasts and improvisations, exposing the many influences that Jewish music conveys.

XVIII-21 Le Baroque Nomade explores for over 20 years the historical and cultural connections between the European baroque repertoire and musical traditions from elsewhere.
