Wat krijg je als je twee van ’s-werelds grootste klassieke muzikanten bij elkaar zet. Prachtige muziek. Het is puur muzikaal genot om Martha Argerich en Itzhak Perlman te horen spelen. Opener is de Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 1 van Schumann met een meer dominante rol voor de viool. Eveneens van Schumann de met veel passie gespeelde vrolijke Drei Fantasiestücke. En dan het op voorstel van Schumann door Brahms geschreven en hier vurig gespeelde Scherzo in C minor. Hier de piano in een dominante rol. Tenslotte van Bach de Sonata voor Keyboard and Violin No.4. Bach zal natuurlijk het klavecimbel hebben gebruikt. Argerich en Perlman maken er een verfijnde en goed gepolijste “negentieneeuwse interpretatie’ versie van. Wat een vitaliteit stralen deze grootheden nog uit!

Martha Argerich (piano) & Itzhak Perlman (violin)
Itzhak Perlman and Martha Argerich have recorded a historic first studio album together: it has been 18 years since their last album together, a live recital from the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. On that momentous occasion in 1998, the pair performed three of the 19th century’s most ambitious and enthralling works for violin and piano – Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata, the Franck Violin Sonata and Schumann’s Violin Sonata No.1. The first two sonatas were released in 1999 by EMI Classics (now Warner Classics) in what was the pair’s only recording together until now.
