Na een album over Parijs en Wenen is het voor Lang Lang nu het moment gekomen om een New York album uit te brengen. Samen met Larry Klein stelt Lang Lang een album samen met muziek van de afgelopen eeuw dat in de big apple klonk. Het is niet een cross over album, wel eentje voor jong en oud. Naast geniale muziek van Gershwin (Rhapsody in Blue) klinkt op dit album bewerkingen van werken van Bernstein (Tonight) en een prachtige mix van Bernstein’s Somewhere en Dirty Blvd van Lou Reed. Het album opent met Story of our town van Aaron Copland en sluit met In evenening air, één van de laatste werken van Copland. Een bijzonder New York album met verschillende rollen van de piano, die altijd weer valt te horen.

The ineffable magic of New York City fires the imagination of superstar pianist Lang Lang on his new album New York Rhapsody (Sony Classical) available September 16, 2016. From the haunting reveries of Gershwin and Copland to the in-the-moment intensity of songs made famous by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, Lou Reed and Don Henley, New York Rhapsody rediscovers the dazzle and the soul of America’s most symbolic city. Following the release of the album, a star-studded concert special Live From Lincoln Center will be released on DVD later this year. The video for “Empire State of Mind” with Lang Lang and singer Andra Day was released worldwide on streaming services July 22. For New York Rhapsody, Lang Lang joined forces with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein to create an album that embraces the musical spirit of New York in ways both surprising and traditional. Inspired by E.B. White’s celebrated essay “Here Is New York,” Klein assembled musical ideas and energies that both reflect New York’s past and evoke its dynamic present.
