Nederlandse meesters? We zien toch werken van Ravel en Scriabin? Klopt, maar Ravels Tombeau de Couperin horen we hier in de bewerking van Robert Zuidam, van wie we een fragment uit A Love Unsung krijgen, naast Theo Verbeys bewerking van Scriabin en zijn eigen 4 Preludes to Infinity. Daarnaast Klaas de Vries’ Haiku en als bonus het arrangement dat Reinbert de Leeuw maakte van een deel uit Liszt’ Via Crucis met daarin de ‘mooiste noot uit de muziekgeschiedenis’. Het Stolz Quartet bestaat uit musici die hun sporen verdiend hebben bij het Asko|Schonberg, dat we natuurlijk ook weer kennen van De Leeuw, maar is geen strijkkwartet en speelt in de ongebruikelijke bezetting van hobo, viool, altviool en cello. Het resulteert in een fascinerend album, met een opvallende hoofdrol voor de hobo.

The Stolz Quartet
Contemporary works in a lively and touching interpretation.
The Quartet; oboe, violin, viola, cello, admits particularly to contemporary music. Along with their concerts, music-theater projects and CDs they are going to prove to the audience that contemporary music can be accepted and, above all, touches people. In many performances the quartet has already succeeded - the audience was enthusiastic and many composers have written especially for the Quartet.
Their new recording already gathered well-known works such as the 4 Preludes of Alexander Scriabin and "Tombeau de Couperin" by Maurice Ravel, as well as works by Theo Verbey, Einar Einarsson Torfi, Klaas de Vries and Robert Zuidam.
A colorful album with so called "modern" works.
