Cappella Mediterranea & Choeur de Chambre de Namur, Leonardo García Alarcón (direction)
Of all Falvetti's numerous compositions the only ones which have come down to us intact are two magnificent 'dialoghi' for five or six voices respectively: 'Il diluvio universale' [1682] and 'Il Nabucco', performed in Messina in 1683. In these two masterly scores, Falvetti's music is characterised by a sensuality and a thoroughly Mediterranean expressivity, along with a profound knowledge of Baroque musical traditions. Two years ago Leonardo Garcia Alarcôn at the head of Cappella Mediterranea introduced us to 'Il Diluvio', prompting a press response that included Editor's Choice in Gramophone magazine. If anything 'Nabucco' is even more rewarding, both musically and in the choice of casting.
