Na al jaren de mooiste deep soul te hebben uitgebracht, keurig verzameld op deel 1 van deze mini-serie, had Clarence Carter in 1970 opeens zijn grootste hit, Patches. Hiermee werd de blauwdruk gezet voor een flink aantal opvolgers, waarin Carter zijn uit de onderbuik komende soul regelmatig voorziet van een stukje parlando. Overspel en onbeantwoorde liefdes, het valt allemaal niet mee, maar het levert wel prachtige muziek op.
