In zijn boek More Miles Than Money: Journeys Through American Music doet de in Nieuw-Zeeland geboren Garth Cartwright verslag van zijn reis door het muzikale landschap van de Verenigde Staten. De net verschenen gelijknamige compilatie (2 cd’s) vormt de soundtrack bij het boek. Deze bonte verzameling liedjes legt zowat hele spectrum van de Amerikaanse muziek bloot; alleen de jazz ontbreekt. Countryblues van Memphis Minnie wordt hier afgewisseld met Tex-Mex van Lydia Mendoza, soul van The Impressions gaat hand in hand met country van Jimmy Rodgers. Zelfs een eigentijdse band als Giant Sand maakt hier zijn opwachting. Bij uitstek geschikt om te draaien tijdens lange tochten per auto.
