Recensie

First radio recordings of Jacques Brel's performances in three mythical cabarets (Chez Geneviève, Chez Gilles and L'Échelle de Jacob, between 1954 and 1956). Accompanied by his only guitar, the newcomer to Paris delivers with the assurance of a future star his first compositions (including his first hit, "Quand on n'a que l'amour," recorded here several months before his 45-rpm edition).

The second side offers a recital in public by Jacques Brel, recorded for the show "Discoparade" at the Alhambra in 1962. Far from the confidential beginnings, accompanied by a piano and a string ensemble, the artist performs "Les Bourgeois," "Marieke," "La Valse à mille temps" and "Ne me quitte pas."
